Hunting big Idaho mountain mule deer bucks in the beginning of the rut activity is a great hunt to consider. Being able to hunt these deer during as the rut activity starts browning gives hunters an amazing edge when 1. trying to harvest a nice mature Mule Deer buck. We have big bodied, dark and heavy antlered bucks that will make any hunter smile as they wrap their hands around an impressive set of antlers. These big deer hang out in the alpine basins and dark timber until the beginnings of the rut activity start, at which point they start searching for their does. We hunt these bucks primarily by spot and stalk, glassing long distances, and watching over food sources. Remember your tag is good for either a mule deer buck or whitetail, so if you happen to spot a nice whitetail buck during your adventure, you are at the liberty to harvest it in an ethical manner.
